France Angerville 06.04.08 WSK - International Series

The foundation "Julie Tonelli pour l'Enfance" has increased its audience by becoming the sponsor of both WSK and Kartmag Prem’s Trophy, all in one single week-end . Always looking for greater recognition, the foundation is taking advantage of its good relations in the world of karting.

The second WSK race of 2008 was held in Angerville. KF1 and KF3 were joined by numerous KZ2, replacing KF2, as only 3 categories may take part in the race each week-end. 187 pilots coming from 25 countries competed on the international track in Angerville. The track, decorated with numerous banners, was almost unrecognisable, with flags waving high in the sky of the Beauce that gave a triumphal look to the whole setting. The choice made by Julie Tonelli to unite its name to this event proved successful. All pilots were given T-shirts specifically made for the WSK race and foundation stickers. Many had the opportunity to discover the famous pink butterflies. Weather conditions were unstable on Saturday and become even worse on Sunday, when the KF1 final took place under sleet and rain that considerably affected results.

Davide Forè is experiencing a difficult season debut and results are not up to expectations. The pilot and his kart cannot be questioned, but there is always something that prevents him from getting the expected results. His performance under the snow in the final could have been extraordinary, had he not gone off the track when he was in the lead. Michael Ryall and Anthony Abbasse, who won the pre-final, engaged in an extremely exciting duel. The Sodikart pilot ended 4th, just ahead of the British GKS pilot. The week-end was extremely positive for Jean-Philippe Guignet too, who was always among the best: fifth in timed qualifying, sixth in the pre-final and final; Jean-Philippe is glad to finally have the kart that his talent deserves. Alban Varutti, who was sixth after the heats, had problems in the pre-final but was then able to end up 14th in the final, thanks to a very aggressive attitude. Florian Alfano had to go through repechage to be admitted to the pre-final, when he withdrew after only 3 laps on a very demanding track. He did better in the final where he finished 16th.

KZ2 offered an exciting show at their debut, despite extremely unfavourable track conditions. Looking at those powerful karts making strange evolutions with slick tyres for a few laps under the rain was quite unusual. A red flag, more or less serious accidents, yellow flags and "slow" signs were not an unusual sight during the heats. Morgan Weber was extremely competitive during the whole week-end. Had he not gone off during the final laps in the pre-final, when he was among the first ten, Morgan could have obtained a positive result in the final. Enzo Zéfirini showed that he is one of the best pilots in KZ2, as proved by his third place in the heat. Enzo ended up 10th in the pre-final but had to withdraw from the final during the first lap. On Sunday, Mathias Gallepe did not like the wet track that prevented him from gaining positions, as he did in the heats. The Energy pilot was always competitive anyway.

In KF3, Jonathan Hélias was extremely convincing and always in the leading positions, thanks to his aggressive attitude that sometimes led him to be ahead of his team mate Maïsano. He eventually ended up 6th, thus confirming his encouraging beginning of the season. Brandon Maïsano was the best in timed qualifying and proved once again to be at the top. Although he lost a lot of time in the pre-final, he was able to gain several positions, passing from 14th to 4th place in the final. The week-end was not particularly satisfactory for the championship leader, i.e. Nyck De Vries, who was unjustly penalized in timed qualifying. Other problems also prevented young Dutch pilot from doing well in the final.
