France Lyon 23.03.08 Championnat de France Grand Prix Karting

The first FFSA Karting Grand Prix 2008 in Lyon marked the beginning of a new partnership between Fondation Julie Tonelli pour l'Enfance and FFSA. Julie Tonelli is the sponsor of Karting Grand Prix, thereby enhancing her visibility in France. At the administrative control in Lyon, all participating pilots received their «kit», containing a T-shirt, a cap, a bracelet, a crest and 10 stickers. Certainly an incentive to defend Julie's colours ! As a consequence, and without any obligation on their part, of course, the number of pilots running for Tonelli has greatly increased and this weekend it almost reached half of all the participants. And this is just the beginning.

A new generation of pilots gathered for the first race of the Championship of France in Saint Laurent de Mure, in very bad weather conditions, unusual even for the middle of winter. It was cold, the wind blew high, it rained very heavily and there was even snow and hail … Therefore, certainly not the best weather conditions to compete. However, despite the scanty crowd, pilots could not resist the call of the race. Races were very hard fought, with several collisions, sometimes sanctioned by sport commissioners.

On Saturday, Bryan Laloux (B – CRG/Iame) obtained the best time in official qualifying and was 2nd in the pre-final. Adrien Leidinger (B – Swiss Hutless/TM) is improving series after series, so much so that he won 3rd place in Sunday's final. Brandon Maïsano (F – Intrepid/TM) won the two pre-finals, but didn't succeed in showing all his potential in the finals. Nelson De Carvalho (F – Sodikart/XTR) increased his pace on Sunday with a nice 5th place in the pre-final and 10th place in the final. KF2
Marc Léon (F – Sodikart/Iame) was the oldest pilot in the group and showed the legendary mastery of forty year olds. Clément Bluy (F – Sodikart/Iame) was the fastest French pilot during the whole weekend and won his two semi-finals. Penalized by his bad choice of tires in Saturday's final, he had a much better performance on Sunday, when he finished 4th. Sébastien Bailly (B – Tony Kart/Vortex) brilliantly passed his entry exam for KF2, after winning the title of France Junior 2007. 2nd in Saturday's semi-final and final, Sébastien finished only 5th in Sunday's final after being collided into by another pilot. Sébastien is now leader of the Championship.
