Julien Fong a retrouvé la forme des grands jours sur la piste de Lonato lors du Trophée Margutti. Le pilote de Singapour a eu besoin de reprendre ses marques en compétition après la pause hivernale. Il avait déjà réalisé de belles performances à Sarno pendant la 1ère épreuve de la WSK Super Master Series la semaine précédente, mais il a vraiment révélé toute l'étendue de son talent à l'occasion du 25e Trophée Margutti sur le circuit de South Garda Karting en terminant à la 2e position de la catégorie KF.

Dès les chronos, Julien signait le 2e temps, à seulement 61 millièmes du poleman, Alessio Lorandi. Ce n'était pas une surprise pour Jarlath Keary, le team principal de Kartronix International : « Nous n'avons pas vraiment modifié le matériel Tony Kart/TM de Julien pour Lonato. Je connais bien les capacités du pilote, il a besoin de disputer plusieurs courses en Europe pour retrouver tout son potentiel. Ce magnifique résultat du Margutti va lui faire le plus grand bien pour la suite de la saison.»

Julien soutenait parfaitement le rythme dans les manches qualificatives, réalisant à chaque fois le 2e meilleur tour en course. 4e au classement intermédiaire, il vivait une préfinale plus difficile à la 7e position. Très motivé, il prenait un excellent départ en finale et rejoignait rapidement la tête de course. Il dépassait Jehan Daruvala pour la seconde place, mais celui-ci livrait un combat féroce pour reprendre son bien. Le duel entre les deux hommes a duré jusqu'à l'arrivée, permettant au leader de s'échapper. Julien franchissait la ligne d'arrivée en 3e position, mais récupérait ensuite la 2e place après la pénalité de son adversaire. C'était en tout cas un grand week-end rempli de satisfaction pour le Champion Asie Pacifique 2013, dont on attend impatiemment d'autres exploits dans les compétitions importantes à venir.

Julien Fong returned to his best form at Lonato for the Margutti Trophy. The driver from Singapore was resuming competition after the winter break. He had already performed well at Sarno during the first round of the WSK Super Master Series last week, but he really revealed the full extent of his talent at the 25th Margutti Trophy on the South Garda Karting circuit, finishing in 2nd place in the KF category.

In qualifying Julien posted the second fastest time, just 61 thousandths from the pole sitter, Alessio Lorandi. It was not a surprise to Jarlath Keary, the team principal Kartronix International: "We have not really changed the Tony Kart / TM for Julien at Lonato. I know the driver, he needs to do several races in Europe to regain his full potential. This magnificent result at the Margutti will do him the greatest good for the rest of the season."

Julien perfectly maintained the pace in the heats, each time setting the second fastest lap. 4th in the intermediate classification, he had a more difficult job to to to 7th in the prefinal. Highly motivated, he made a great start in the final and joined the race leader quickly. He passed Jehan Daruvala for second place, but he put in a fierce fight to regain his property. The duel between the two men lasted until the end, allowing the leader to escape. Julian crossed the finish line in third position, but then recovered 2nd place after a penalty for his opponent. It was in any case a great weekend filled with appreciation for the 2013 Asia Pacific Champion, who is anxiously awaiting further exploits in the upcoming important competitions.
